Tinubu Names New HYREP Governing Council, Board Members

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Governing Council and Board of Trustees for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

According to a statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Minister of Environment will serve as the council’s chairman.

Other members include representatives from environmental NGOs (Loanyie Barituka Victor), Niger Delta communities (Bright Onyebuchi Jacob and Henry Obiabure), and the Ogoni community (Prof.  Barinedum Michael Nwibere and Barrister Baride Abdul Gwezia).

The nine oil-producing states will be represented by Gideon Onyebuwa Melfor and Dr Ibikunle Omotehinse.

The President also reconstituted the HYPREP Board of Trustees, with Emmanuel Nwiika Deeyah reappointed as chairman.

Representatives on the board include Fred Mbombo Igwe and Dr Fred Barivule Kpakol for Ogoni communities, Mrs Dorcas Amos for other Niger Delta communities, and Chief Jide Damazio for environmental NGOs.
