UNRULY BEHAVIOUR: POLICE ARRAIGN IBOM AIR PASSENGER ON FIVE-COUNT CHARGE
The Airport Police Command has arraigned one Comfort Bob Emanson ‘f’, aged 26, before Magistrate Court 18, Ogba, Ikeja, on a five-count charge bordering on assault, willful damage, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 10, 2025, aboard Ibom Air flight number LANS13 from Uyo to Lagos at about 10:45hrs. Investigation revealed that the suspect failed to comply with the repeated instruction of a flight attendant, Juliana Edward, to switch off her mobile phone before take-off, a standard aviation safety procedure.
Her refusal sparked an argument despite the intervention of another passenger seated beside her. Upon arrival in Lagos, the suspect reportedly waited for other passengers to disembark before confronting and physically assaulting Juliana Edward by stepping on her foot and slapping her.
She also allegedly assaulted another crew member, Jokpame Sajun ‘f’, by striking her in the face with a pair of slippers. In the course of the altercation, the curtain separating Business Class from Economy was torn, and the suspect allegedly seized a fire extinguisher in an attempt to attack others.
Airport security personnel intervened and handed her over to the police. Following the conclusion of investigations, the suspect was arraigned on Monday, August 11, 2025, before Magistrate Salami.
She pleaded not guilty, and the case was adjourned to October 6, 2025, for hearing. She has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfillment of her bail conditions.
The Command warns that acts of unruly behaviour, especially those endangering the safety of air travel and the wellbeing of crew members or passengers, will be met with the full weight of the law.
