Oluwole Emmanuel Adefila Adegboro, a statesman and prominent figure in Nigeria’s political, academic, and royal circles, has passed away at the age of 73.
The member of the Osupa/Odundun Royal Family of Akure passed away on July 27, 2022, in Akure, Ondo State. His death has prompted an “outpouring of tributes” from across the nation.
Adegboro’s family described him as “a father who lived by the values he taught, honesty, dignity, and relentless pursuit of justice.”
A former colleague described him as “a disciplined public servant and unshakable advocate of education and good governance,” while another tribute noted that “his name will remain etched in the history of Ondo State for his service to the people and his love for truth.”

Adegboro’s career spanned multiple sectors, from student activism to politics and publishing.
He was a pioneer in student leadership, serving as the National President of the National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) in 1971 and becoming the first Continental President of the All-Africa Students Union.
After being commissioned into the Nigerian Army in 1974, he retired as a Captain and moved into academia, holding senior positions at The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, and the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
His political career was equally influential. He was an influential strategist and policy driver in parties like the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), and represented the Akure Federal Constituency at the 1988–89 National Constituent Assembly.
As a commissioner in Ondo State, he played a notable role in relocating Adekunle Ajasin University to its permanent site.
Adegboro also made his mark as a publisher, founding Odua Voice Newspaper and Black Pride Magazine, and writing several influential texts, including his well-known column “Platform.”
