Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the South have stated that the party has not yet reached a decision on whether the region will produce the next presidential candidate.
This is ahead of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Monday where the zoning of the presidential ticket, among other matters, will be discussed.
The members, speaking at a PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit in Lagos, maintained that they would not “get into the gutters” with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and that efforts would be made to reconcile all aggrieved members.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said, “When people go low, or they go into the gutters, I don’t go with them.”
Makinde stressed that the party’s priority is to build a strong and functional structure before considering the zoning of the presidential ticket.
He said, “We need to have a functioning political party first before we start talking about presidential candidates. If we don’t have a party, anything that we’re trying to do will fall flat.”
He added that their current efforts are “directed towards having a strong and united PDP that Nigerians will be proud of and will believe in.”
According to Makinde, the caliber of attendees at the summit proves that the members are “committed to PDP taking back its rightful position in Nigeria.”

- Douye Diri (Bayelsa State Governor and Chairman of the party’s National Zoning Committee)
- Ademola Adeleke (Osun State Governor)
- Peter Mba (Enugu State Governor), represented by his deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai
- Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Former Osun Governor)
- Bode George
- Monsurat Sunmonu
- Udom Emmanuel (Former Governor of Akwa Ibom)
- Sam Egwu (Former Governor of Ebonyi State)
- Jumoke Akinjide (Former Speaker of Oyo State)
- Emma Ogidi (South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee)
- Kamorudeen Ajisafe (Southwest Zonal Chairman)
- Also in attendance were 12 of the 17 PDP National Assembly members and other key party stakeholders from across the southern states.
