NCAA Begins Investigation Into Comfort Emmanson, Ibom Air Crew Incident

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a formal investigation into the recent altercation between a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, and members of the Ibom Air crew.

The NCAA announced the probe in a post on Thursday by its publicist, Michael Achimugu, who confirmed that the Authority’s team met with a crew member, Julie Edwards, and other crew members on Wednesday in Abuja.

Achimugu’s post read, “Yesterday in Abuja, the NCAA team met with Julie Edwards and other members of the crew involved in the Comfort Emanson incident as part of investigations into that event.”

He added that various directorates within the NCAA, including Aviation Security, Operations, and Consumer Protection, “are collaborating to ensure a proper conclusion to this investigation.”

The embattled passenger, Emmanson, was also scheduled to meet with the Authority on Thursday and, according to Achimugu, “She will be accompanied by her legal counsel during the session.”

The incident, which gained public attention from a video showing airline officials “manhandling” Emmanson, occurred on a flight from Uyo to Lagos.

Emmanson was later arraigned in court, but the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, directed Ibom Air to withdraw its complaint against her, leading to her release. The NCAA has assured the public of its commitment to upholding professionalism and safety in the aviation sector.
