The letter stated, “On behalf of the Chairperson of the African Union, I have the honour to notify you of your designation as a member of the High-Level Panel of Eminent Experts to conduct a comprehensive review of the African Union’s Governance, Peace and Security Frameworks.”

The panel was established to conduct a strategic review of AU frameworks and reposition the Union to address persistent and emerging threats.

Professor Gambari’s responsibilities on the panel include providing strategic guidance and championing African-led solutions.

He is scheduled to participate in a review process from September 1-5 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Professor Gambari viewed the appointment as a “call to service,” stating that Africa must double its efforts to tackle challenges with strategic home-grown approaches.

He also commended the AU for appointing knowledgeable Africans with diverse experiences to the panel.
