Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has promised his administration’s continued support for the state-owned airline, Ibom Air, while also addressing the recent controversial incident involving a passenger, Comfort Emmanson.
Speaking publicly for the first time about the incident at a Town Hall Meeting, Governor Eno promised to address what had happened, noting that both the airline and Ms. Emmanson are from Akwa Ibom.
He said, “We’ll continue to support our flagship airline, Ibom Air. Every Akwa Ibom person must support this airline that has flown our colours admirably in the Nigerian aviation sector.”

He also encouraged his people not to condemn the airline, saying, “My money and your money are in Ibom Airline, so you must be happy about it. If there’s an issue, don’t join others to condemn the airline. We’ll solve what has happened.”
The governor added, “The girl and Ibom Air are from this state,” and urged the public not to talk down on the airline.
The controversy began about two weeks ago when Comfort Emmanson was forcefully removed from an Ibom Air aircraft in Lagos for allegedly assaulting a crew member.
A viral video showed Ms. Emmanson partially stripped during the incident.
The airline pressed charges, leading to her remand at Kirikiri Prison. Additionally, Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) imposed a lifetime “no-fly” ban against her.
The public reaction, including a “backlash” against the airline, prompted the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, to ask airlines and aviation regulators to “withdraw” cases against Ms. Emmanson and music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, who was involved in a separate incident with a different airline.
