Obasanjo Reveals How Tinubu Is Competing With Buhari

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized President Bola Tinubu, stating that his administration’s inefficiency is rivaling that of the late President Muhammadu Buhari‘s government.

In his new book, Nigeria: Past and Future, which was launched to mark his 88th birthday, Obasanjo reviewed the nation’s leaders since independence.

In the first chapter, he concluded that Buhari’s administration was the “worst civil administration regime” in the country’s history.

Obasanjo wrote, “Only Bola Tinubu’s administration seems to be competing with Buhari’s for now.”

He also recalled how Buhari had once described Shehu Shagari’s government as corrupt, only to return to power years later without addressing the problems he had identified.

Obasanjo stated, “Words are cheap, and what needed to be done was left undone during Buhari’s civil administration from 2015 to 2023 – the worst civil administration so far in Nigeria’s history.”

He added, “Otherwise, how do you explain the gulf between what he said then and how he governed later?”

Reflecting on his own legacy, the former president said his writings are intended to inspire national development.

He also addressed criticisms that label him hypocritical, stating that his conscience is clear.

Obasanjo said, “I have had the honour of serving this country as a military Head of State and later as President. So, it might be said that I have sat on both sides of the fence. Now, I am getting close to my departure lounge, maybe without picking my boarding pass yet.”
