Some stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 29 of the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State have accused the Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, of working against the party’s interests and growth in the state.
In a letter sent to President Bola Tinubu, the party stalwarts alleged that the Minister is nurturing a gubernatorial ambition and called on the President to intervene.
The signatories to the letter included Michael Essien, Obong Anthony John, Victor Okon, Pst David Udoh, Lawrence Edet, and many others listed from various Local Government Areas.

The letter, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Uyo, alleged that the Minister’s behavior is a “clear manifestation of his selfish interests and lack of commitment to the party’s ideals.”
The statement from the party stalwarts reads in part, “We, the dedicated members of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, write to reiterate our call for the sack of Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo.”
They claimed that since assuming office in 2023, the Minister’s actions have been “nothing short of disastrous for our party in Akwa Ibom State.”
The letter also accused him of creating factions, sidelining, and ostracizing members who do not support his 2031 gubernatorial ambition.
They stated that his alleged boasting about amassing sufficient funds for his ambition is a “clear betrayal of the trust reposed in him as a member of our great party.”
Furthermore, they accused the Minister of undermining the Senate President and sowing seeds of discord between him and the Governor.
In conclusion, the letter insists that the Minister is a “liability to your administration and a curse to our party in Akwa Ibom State.”
They urged the President to take immediate action to address the situation and “restore the integrity of our party.”
