Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has remained silent on the growing calls for his ex-principal, Goodluck Jonathan, to run in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Omokri explained that his relationship with Jonathan makes it difficult for him to comment.
Omokri stated, “I have an unconditional love for President Jonathan and so I will not criticise or give an opinion on anything he does on live television.”
To emphasize his close relationship with the former president, he added, “This is a man who came to California and spent ten days with me and my family.”

Jonathan was Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 and has since remained outside of partisan politics, though he has not resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jonathan is being courted by the PDP. On Thursday, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, said the party’s door is open for Jonathan to join the presidential race.
Mohammed described Jonathan as one of the “most celebrated politicians today” and said he believes the ex-president would be a “good fit for the party’s ticket.”
Mohammed also mentioned the possibility of other candidates, saying, “But certainly, (former) President Jonathan is one of the candidates we are thinking of, if he joins us and opens his mind to run. And even other people like (former) governor Obi, because if he decides to come to a better platform where there are no encumbrances, he will be given the opportunity too.”
