Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and one-time chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, has passed away.
He reportedly died at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja, but as of the time of the article’s publication, no official statement had been issued by his family or the Nigeria Police Force.
Arase, who was Nigeria’s 18th IGP, served from April 2015 to June 2016.
After his retirement, he was appointed chairman of the PSC in January 2023 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, he was removed from the position in June 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.

The late police chief, who was born in Edo State on June 21, 1956, had a distinguished career.
He enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in December 1981 after studying Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University.
He later earned degrees in Law and a Master’s degree from other universities.
Before becoming IGP, Arase held a number of key roles, including heading the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau and serving as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State.
He also served internationally with a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Namibia.
He retired from the force in June 2016 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
