Suspected thugs have disrupted the inauguration of a transition committee for a coalition of opposition parties in Kaduna State, attacking participants and vandalizing property.
The committee was a union of members from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Labour Party (LP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Eyewitnesses said the inauguration, which was held in Kaduna, turned violent when armed “hoodlums with cutlasses, clubs, and stones” disrupted the event.
Despite the attacks, the inauguration continued under tense conditions.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who was present at the event, condemned the attack as “a dangerous descent into lawlessness.”
He expressed outrage over the alleged “inaction of policemen” who were present at the scene, accusing them of complicity.
He claimed that senior police officers, including an Assistant Commissioner of Police, “stood by and watched” as the violence unfolded.
El-Rufai warned that the “political thuggery” in the state must be stopped and threatened that if authorities don’t act, the consequences could be severe.
He said, “If the authorities don’t end the introduction of thuggery into Kaduna politics, God help us. Nobody has a monopoly on violence or thugs. We will take decisive steps to ensure this does not repeat itself.”
He also vowed to escalate the matter to the Police Service Commission, accusing the police of violating regulations by failing to intervene.
