Tinubu Opens Up On Disagreement With Buhari

President Bola Tinubu has revealed that during the formative days of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he “disagreed with then-General Muhammadu Buhari over the party’s logo.”

Speaking at a meeting with members of “The Buhari Organisation,” led by Senator Tanko Almakura, Tinubu recounted the merger talks in 2013 that led to the formation of the APC. He recalled that he and Buhari “even argued about a symbol.”

He said, “We disagreed to agree…He (Buhari) insisted on parliament, and I insisted on broom. He’s so stubborn,” a comment made “amid laughter.”

The “broom, ultimately chosen as the party’s logo,” was intended to symbolize “collective action against corruption and poor governance.”

The merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), led by Tinubu, and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), led by Buhari, resulted in the formation of the APC, which went on to unseat the long-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 elections.
