President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the “delays in finalising a list of ambassadorial nominees,” nearly two years after he recalled all envoys from Nigeria’s 109 foreign missions.
During a meeting with The Buhari Organisation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Almakura, Tinubu lamented the “complex political considerations” involved in the appointments.

He said, “I couldn’t appoint everybody at once and thank you for your patience. I still have some slots for ambassadorial positions that so many people are craving for. But it’s not easy stitching those names,”.
The President assured “party loyalists” that he remains committed to a “broad-based consultation” for key appointments.
He told the delegation, “What I am doing is hard work, hard thinking, and consulting with you.”
Since the recall of ambassadors in September 2023, many of Nigeria’s foreign missions have been overseen by chargés d’affaires.
