Chef Hilda Baci has “set a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice,” weighing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).
The record, achieved in partnership with Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, was “officially confirmed” on Monday.
A post on X by Guinness World Records read: “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

The record body also reposted a video from the event with the words, “What’s cookin’? “Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”
Baci, who rose to fame in 2023 with her “headline-making cook-a-thon,” has once again “brought global attention to Nigerian cuisine.”
The event, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, had a “carnival-like atmosphere,” drawing a large crowd of supporters and celebrities, including actress Funke Akindele, who got on stage to “stir the tomato base for the rice.”
Other notable attendees included Ogun State’s First Lady, Bamidele Abiodun, as well as dancer Kaffy and others.
According to the chef, the specially designed pot used had a capacity of 22,619 litres, and she aimed to fill it to 80 percent, which would require about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw rice.
Hilda’s “cook-a-thon marathon in 2023,” where she cooked for over 93 hours, “turned her into a national icon and earned her global recognition,” and also “inspired a wave of young Nigerians, particularly women, to explore the culinary space.”
