Why Tinubu’s Government Is Not Ready To Hold Free And Fair Elections In 2027 – Buba Galadima

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), “has expressed concerns that President Bola Tinubu’s government is not committed to conducting free and fair elections in 2027.”

In an interview on Arise Television, Galadima alleged that the government’s tactics to “destabilise opposition parties” indicate a desire “to eliminate any challenge in the upcoming polls.”

He was quoted saying, “This government is not ready to organise a free and fair election. From their antics and how they are destabilising parties, that suggests they don’t want an opposition at all for the election.”

He warned that if the government does not change its style, it risks losing the elections, stating, “I want to assure them that there will be opposition, and if they don’t change their style of governance, they will lose this election.”

Galadima also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for “lacking the power to ensure free and fair elections” under the current administration.

His concerns are deepened by INEC’s “alleged inability to enforce electoral laws and prevent politicians from jumping the gun.”

He lamented, “Could it be worse? What is happening is the politicking that is going on now, just two years into the life of this administration. Look at the politicking that is going on when INEC doesn’t even have the muscle and the guts to call politicians to order because people in government are the ones that started.”
