On Thursday morning, thousands of supporters “who had thronged the Government House, Port Harcourt, to welcome Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, went home disappointed after waiting for hours.”
The supporters, who had arrived as early as 6 a.m., began to leave the entrance to the Government House between 12 noon and 1 p.m. because the governor’s whereabouts remained unknown.
Some of their leaders, including “sacked LG chairmen loyal to Fubara,” were seen making “frantic calls.”

In contrast, “none of the supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were seen at the Government House, including the newly elected LG chairmen.”
Some of the disappointed supporters expressed frustration, with one saying, “We are going because we are hungry. Maybe when the governor comes, we will return.”
The development coincided with the expiration of the “six-month emergency rule” that was imposed on the state due to a political crisis.
President Bola Tinubu had declared the “State of Emergency” in March to restore order and appointed Ibas as administrator, but on Wednesday, he “formally declared an end to the State of Emergency in Rivers State,” which cleared the way for the return of democratic governance.
