Step-By-Step Guide On How To Apply For Your Virtual Vehicle Tinted Permit

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has introduced a digital tinted glass permit regime, a policy that continues to generate public debate across the country.

In April 2025, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, announced the policy, which mandates motorists to obtain an annual tinted glass permit (TGP) through an online application process for a prescribed fee.

To facilitate this, the IGP launched a digital platform, the Police Specialized Services Automation Portal (POSSAP), accessible via www.possap.gov.ng.

What Is POSSAP?

POSSAP is the official digital platform of the Nigeria Police Force for accessing and validating various police services, including the reactivated Tinted Glass Permit (TGP).

The platform automates the application process to ensure transparency, verification, and ease of use for motorists nationwide.

The NPF plans full nationwide enforcement of the policy starting October 2, 2025, despite ongoing legal debates surrounding the permit.

Steps to Apply for a TGP

The virtual verification system is designed to provide a seamless, technology-driven process. To apply for a tinted glass permit, motorists must follow these steps:

  1. Sign Up: Visit www.possap.gov.ng and sign up using your National Identification Number (NIN) and Vehicle Number (VN) (for individuals) or Tax Identification Number (TIN) (for corporate bodies).
  2. Verification: Select the TGP option under services and choose your preferred method for Virtual Verification of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
  3. Payment 1 (Validation): You will be redirected to a verification page to validate your VIN and make a payment of ₦2,850.
  4. Document Upload: Return to the main application page to upload required documents, which include proof of vehicle ownership, vehicle license data page, and a clear photo of your vehicle. (All files must be below 2MB).
  5. Payment 2 (Application Fee): Proceed to pay the application fee of ₦14,200.
  6. Facial Verification: You will be redirected to complete facial verification (or use the email link provided).
  7. Final Issuance: Once completed, download your application receipt. The application will be reviewed and, upon successful approval, your TGP will be issued digitally through the POSSAP portal.

Motorists are advised to follow all instructions carefully and ensure that provided details “match their vehicle registration records to avoid rejection or delays.”
