Demolished Lekki Property Doesn’t Belong To Ola Of Lagos – Firm Makes Clarification

A Nigerian firm, Skyewise Group, has clarified that the property recently demolished along the Lekki Expressway in Lagos belongs only to the firm and “not to popular auto influencer, Ola of Lagos.”

This clarification was issued amid social media reports suggesting that the car lot, which was demolished last Saturday, belonged to Ola of Lagos, who is known for showcasing luxury vehicles online.

The demolition had caused “outrage online after videos showed heavy-duty equipment pulling down luxury car display lots” along the busy Lekki-Epe corridor.

In a statement made available on Monday, the Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Elvis Abuyere, described the destruction of the company’s office as “unfortunate and saddening.”

Abuyere explained that the demolition was part of efforts by the Lagos State Government to create access routes for an ongoing “new waterway development project.”

“This unfortunate incident affected several car lots along the Lekki Expressway, starting from Phase 1, where the Skyewise Group office was located,” he said.

While expressing “deep sadness” over the demolition, the CEO confirmed that the company has already begun plans to “rebuild and establish a new and improved facility in Lagos.”

He stressed that the demolished property was “fully owned by Skyewise Group,” adding that only a section of the premises had been leased to Ola of Lagos for “car hire operations and the display of luxury vehicles used for content creation.”

Abuyere affirmed that:“All necessary building approvals, operational permits, dealership licenses, and environmental levies for the property were duly obtained from the Lagos State Government,” Abuyere stated.

He concluded by thanking Nigerians for their support during the setback and expressed “optimism that the firm would ‘emerge stronger and better in no distant future.’ ”

He noted that the company “would release copies of the relevant documents soon” following the demolition.
