Rivers Government Cancels ₦134bn Contract Awarded By Ibas

The Rivers State Executive Council held its first meeting since the six-month state of emergency was lifted, making several key decisions regarding contracts and policies that had been put in place during that period.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara led the session at the Government House in Port Harcourt, which included Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, eight ongoing commissioners, and the Permanent Secretaries for Works and Education.

Following extensive deliberations, the Council’s most significant move was the cancellation of the ₦134 billion contract for renovating the State Secretariat Complex, which had been previously given to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) during the emergency rule.

The Council instructed the company to refund the ₦20 billion mobilisation fee it had already received.

Additionally, a new public bidding process was ordered for other canceled projects in the Opobo/Nkoro and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Areas, which were originally advertised in February.
