Wike Speaks On ‘2027 Presidential Ambition’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has definitively rejected reports that he is being positioned as a presidential candidate for 2027, declaring his firm support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration until 2031.

Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, described the report—which claimed some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders were “pushing” Wike to enter the 2027 race—as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Olayinka clarified the Minister’s position: “As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031. He has made his stand clear. He is not running for president and is fully committed to delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President in the FCT.”

Olayinka added that those spreading the rumor are part of a continuous effort to discredit Wike.

He stated that “The minister does not operate in secrecy. He says what he does and does what he says,” and criticized the sponsors of the falsehood for using “kindergarten tactics.”
