The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike, which began on October 13, 2025.
ASUU President Professor Chris Piwuna announced the suspension at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, explaining that the action was halted before its scheduled expiry next Monday due to “renewed commitments” from the Federal Government and the National Assembly.
Piwuna cited recent interventions and engagements with the Yayale Ahmed-led committee and the Deputy Senate President as reasons for the decision.

However, the lecturers issued a strong warning, urging the government to use the one-month suspension window to “meet their demands.”
These demands include the review of the 2009 ASUU-Federal Government agreement, the disbursement of the university revitalisation fund, and the payment of outstanding salaries and earned allowances, among others.
ASUU concluded by stating that the union will resume the industrial action without prior notice if the government fails to take “concrete steps” within the next month.
