The Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
This move is intended to raise funds dedicated to the transformation of the state’s sports sector.
The appointment was announced by the state Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, during a courtesy visit by the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Adewusi emphasized that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is determined to transform the Osun sports sector.
Adewusi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promptly completing the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, assuring that the upgraded facility “will meet Olympic standards upon completion.”
He stated, “Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards — a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time.”
The Deputy Governor explained that the introduction of the Sports Trust Fund is intended “to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.”
He confirmed that Davido did not hesitate in accepting the appointment, and his ministry is optimistic that the music icon’s involvement will positively impact sports funding in Osun.
Additionally, Adewusi disclosed that the state government is in advanced stages of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which “will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.”
He added, “I am pleased to inform you that plans are in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.”
