A total of six opposition members of the House of Representatives have moved to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This group includes five lawmakers from Enugu State and one from Plateau State.
The defecting members are Obetta Chidi, Anayo Onwuegbu, Dennis Agbo, Martins George, and Nnaji Nnolim from Enugu State, alongside Daniel Asama from Plateau State. All six lawmakers defected from the Labour Party (LP).
The defection of the Enugu lawmakers occurred in the presence of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah at the green chamber.
This move comes just two weeks after Governor Mbah himself defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Governor Mbah justified his decision to switch parties during a state-wide broadcast to his constituents. He explained that the shift was necessary to link the south-eastern state with the central government.
In his statement, the Governor said:“There comes always a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny. Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he stated.
