A reported bloody clash has erupted in the Ogheghe community, Egor local government area of Edo State, between Hausa people and indigenous youths of Benin City.
The confrontation resulted in injuries to “Some youths” and was triggered by the killing of a young man, a suspected ‘yahoo boy’ identified simply as Chizi Benz.
Chizi Benz was reportedly “stabbed to death by a Hausa youth over a suspected sour deal.”
Although specific “details of the incident were still sketchy” at the time of filing the report, the killing ignited significant public anger.
The death of Chidi Benz immediately “sparked outrage” as local youths took to the streets armed with “dangerous weapons” in what was described as a “revenge mission.”
Sources indicated that “many people were injured in the reprisal attack,” while others, including “Okada riders and petty traders,” quickly closed their businesses and “fled for safety.”
Policemen were deployed to the volatile area and reportedly used “tear gas to disperse the angry youths.”
