The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has sanctioned a comprehensive exercise involving the posting and appointment of senior officers to various command, staff, and instructional positions across the Nigerian Army.
According to the Army Headquarters, this development is intended to “reinvigorate leadership, strengthening command structures and enhancing operational effectiveness across the service.”
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, issued a statement on Thursday detailing the changes affecting several Major Generals and Brigadier Generals.

Key Staff and Policy Appointments at the Army and Defence Headquarters:
- Maj.-Gen. Bamidele Alabi is now the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) at the Army Headquarters Department of Policy and Plans.
- Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdulsalam (formerly Chief of Special Services) moves to Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Operations.
- Maj.-Gen. Samson Jiya is redeployed to Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Accounts and Budget.
- Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso is appointed Chief of Operations (Army).
- Maj.-Gen. Isa Abdullahi is appointed Chief of Administration (Army).
- Maj.-Gen. Musa Etsu-Ndagi is appointed Chief of Civil-Military Affairs.
- Maj.-Gen. Philip Ilodibia is now Chief of Defence Space Administration.
Key Corps Commanders:
- Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut becomes Corps Commander Infantry.
- Maj.-Gen. Umar Abubakar becomes Commander Armour Corps.
- Maj.-Gen. John Adeyemo becomes Corps Commander Artillery.
- Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Abdullahi becomes Corps Commander Signals.
- Maj.-Gen. Taofik Sidick is redeployed as Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army).
- Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim becomes Corps Commander Ordnance.
- Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Adereti becomes Corps Commander Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
- Maj.-Gen. Nansak Shagaya becomes Corps Commander Supply and Transport.
- Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed is the Acting Corps Commander Education.
The reshuffle also included new leaders for key operational and training formations:
- Maj.-Gen. Peter Mala is moved from the Office of the National Security Adviser to Commander, Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).
- Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Haruna is now Commander, Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora.
Heads of Training Institutions:
- Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye is appointed Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
- Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Mustapha is appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army Signal School.
- Maj.-Gen. Adamu Hassan is appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Artillery.
- Brig.-Gen. John Bulus is appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Finance and Accounts.
Joint Task Force and Defence Media Appointments:
- Maj.-Gen. Saidu Audu is appointed Force Commander, Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), N’Djamena.
- Maj.-Gen. Warrah Idris is appointed Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
- Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo is appointed General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA.
- Maj.-Gen. Olatokumbo Bello is appointed Director, Defence Media Operations.
- Brig.-Gen. Samaila Uba is appointed Director, Defence Information.
The Army Chief charged the newly appointed officers to utilize their “wealth of experience, administrative acumen and strategic foresight” to cultivate a “disciplined and combat-ready army” capable of handling contemporary security challenges.
He instructed them to “sustain operational momentum, strengthen interagency collaboration and uphold the army’s core values of loyalty, selfless service, integrity and excellence.”
