The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, “refused to grant an application” filed by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido that sought to stop the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from moving forward with its planned national convention.
Lamido’s lawyer, Jeph Njikonye, SAN, had moved a motion ex parte asking the court for an “interim order” to restrain the PDP.

This temporary injunction was requested “pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed alongside.”
Instead of granting the restraining order, Justice Peter Lifu issued a ruling ordering the defendants—the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—to appear before the court and “show cause why the ex-governor’s reliefs should not be granted.”
The former governor, who is the plaintiff in the new suit (marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/2299/2025), named the PDP as the 1st defendant and INEC as the 2nd defendant.
