The Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take swift “decisive action” following the military threat made against Nigeria by President Donald Trump.
In a Facebook post published on Sunday, Gumi “condemned” Trump’s threat, characterizing it as an “insult to Nigeria’s sovereignty” and urging an immediate diplomatic response.
He wrote: “For Trump to threaten a sovereign country with military attack is a profound disrespect to our authority, but we can rise above it.”

Gumi’s advice to the Nigerian government includes summoning the U.S. ambassador and “demanding a retraction.”
He warned that if they fail to retract the threat, it should lead to severing diplomatic ties.
The cleric stated: “President Tinubu should summon the US ambassador; they either retract their threats or we sever diplomatic ties with this irresponsible regime.”
Finally, he “emphasized the need for Nigeria to explore other options” for both economic development and military alliances, adding: “There are lots of other options for our economic expansion and military alliance.”
