On Sunday, the Nigerian Presidency asserted that President Bola Tinubu is “well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America.”
This statement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, in a post on X, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened military action against Nigeria over alleged anti-Christian violence.
Trump had released a statement on Saturday, vowing that the United States would “immediately cut off all assistance to the African country if the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians,” and claiming he had instructed the newly renamed Department of War to “prepare for possible action.”
However, Onanuga countered, arguing that President Tinubu had already demonstrated decisive leadership by making significant changes to the nation’s military command and laying out clear mandates for the new service chiefs.

Onanuga directly quoted the President in his X post: “President Bola Tinubu was well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America as he told the new service chiefs on Thursday what Nigerians expect of them. No more excuses, he said. Nigerians want results.”
In his charge to the security chiefs, the President had urged them to perform their duties with “patriotic zeal” and to be “innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous.”
He also committed to providing full support to the armed forces and emphasized the necessity of deploying technology.
President Tinubu specifically addressed the current security challenges: “Securit threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating. Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South,” adding a powerful warning: “We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.”

In a related development, Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, announced on X on Saturday that President Tinubu is expected to meet with Trump to discuss the claims of “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.
Bwala highlighted the shared dedication of both leaders to fighting terrorism and insurgency, noting that Trump had previously supported Nigeria by “authorising the sale of arms to Nigeria.”
He stressed that President Tinubu has “adequately utilised the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show.”
The purpose of the meeting, which could take place either at the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington, will be to resolve “differences in perception” regarding whether the terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or people of all faiths.
Bwala concluded by stating: “Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” and “As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences if they exist would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in State House or White House.”
