Ground Operation, Air Strikes – Trump Gives Update On Potential US Attack In Nigeria

US President Donald Trump reiterated a threat of potential military intervention in Nigeria, specifically over the ongoing killings of Christians in the country, even after the Nigerian presidency suggested a diplomatic meeting to resolve the issue.

On Sunday, when reporters on Air Force One asked the President if a military operation in Nigeria could involve sending “US troops on the ground in Nigeria or air strikes,” President Trump was non-committal but forceful, replying: “Could be, I mean, a lot of things — I envisage a lot of things.”

He justified the severity of the threat by claiming: “They’re killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers. We’re not going to allow that to happen.”

The Sunday comments followed an “explosive post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday,” where he revealed he had instructed the Pentagon to “map out a possible plan of attack in Nigeria.”

This post came a day after he warned that Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in Nigeria.

In his Saturday post, President Trump explicitly stated that if Nigeria does not put a stop to the killings, the United States will launch an attack that “will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians.”

Additionally, on Friday, President Trump had posted that “thousands of Christians are being killed (and) Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”

The Nigerian presidency, in a statement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on social media on Saturday, pushed back against the US President’s characterization of the situation.

President Tinubu “denied that Christians have been targeted by jihadist attacks more than other faiths,” stating that “The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality.”
