FG Issues Final Warning To PoS Operators, Reveals What Will Happen On January 1, 2026

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has officially directed all Point-of-Sale (PoS) operators across Nigeria to complete their registration by January 1, 2026.

The Commission issued a stern warning that any unregistered operators “will be barred from conducting business” after the deadline.

In a public notice released on Saturday, the Commission noted that it has observed a surge in unregistered PoS operators across the country.

The CAC emphasized that operating without formal registration is a violation of the “Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Agent Banking Regulations.”

The Commission also criticized certain fintech companies for onboarding unregistered agents, characterizing the practice as “reckless and harmful to the stability of Nigeria’s financial system.”

This trend, the CAC warned, “exposes millions of Nigerians, including small business owners and rural users, to economic and investment risks.”

Directly addressing those enabling non-compliance, the CAC stated: “Fintechs enabling illegal operations will be placed on the watchlist and reported to the CBN. All operators are advised to regularise immediately. Compliance is mandatory.”

The notice concluded with a clear ultimatum: “Beginning from 1st January 2026, no PoS operator will be allowed to conduct business in Nigeria without completing full registration.”
