Tension gripped Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, on Thursday, following reports that Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo had collapsed and was urgently taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa.
The incident is said to have occurred around 1:30 p.m. while the Deputy Governor was in his office, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Eyewitnesses reported that Senator Ewhrudjakpo was in a “severe state” when he was moved to the hospital’s emergency unit.

He is now reportedly stable and receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the FMC. While there is no official statement detailing the cause of his sudden health issue, sources suggest it might be connected to a “cardiac emergency.”
A source close to the Deputy Governor commented on his intense work schedule, stating: “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest.”
Security personnel have since sealed off the hospital area, and several high-ranking government officials have visited to inquire after him.
Although attempts to get an official statement from the Deputy Governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful, sources at the hospital assured correspondents that Ewhrudjakpo “is receiving the best possible care and is stable.”
