In the newly released biography, “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari,” former First Lady Aisha Buhari has officially debunked long-standing rumors regarding the late President’s passing.
She clarified that medical professionals told the family the immediate cause of death was pneumonia, flatly rejecting claims of poisoning or “air-conditioning sabotage.”
According to her, these narratives were merely “fear-mongering” that distracted from the practical challenges of health management.

Reflecting on his previous health battles, specifically the 2017 crisis, she insisted that his condition was not due to “poison, not an arcane ailment,” but rather the result of a heavy workload and the “collapse of a carefully supervised dietary and rest regimen.”
She revealed that once a strict schedule was restored, his condition improved.
She further noted that while public reports mentioned various conditions, including “leukaemia,” the family strictly followed the doctors’ “direct explanation.”
