Political observers suggest this transition may fundamentally change the political landscape of the capital city as the nation moves toward upcoming local council elections and the 2027 general polls.

The move was made official during a prominent event at Merit House in Abuja, where ADC executives and supporters gathered to witness what party leaders called the start of a fresh political wave in the FCT.

Speaking on her motivations for joining the party, Senator Kingibe pointed to the ADC’s structure and its focus on the citizens.

She told the crowd, “I have chosen to join the African Democratic Congress because it is a giant in the making. In the FCT, ADC is not just present; it is strong, vibrant and growing from strength to strength.”

The Senator, recognized for her focus on grassroots issues, emphasized that the ADC’s commitment to responsive leadership and inclusive growth was a primary draw for her.

Her arrival was hailed as a significant victory by Comrade Balarabe Rufai, the ADC Youth Leader, who remarked, “We have caught a big fish. Senator Ireti Kingibe’s entry consolidates the coalition we have been building. With the FCT council elections approaching, ADC is fully prepared to challenge the dominance of the APC.”

During the ceremony, the party’s Deputy Organising Secretary, Alhaji Atiku Saleh, officially handed Kingibe her new membership card.

He described the occasion as a pivotal moment, stating, “ADC is one family. By God’s grace, come 2027, we will emerge victorious. Senator Kingibe’s decision is a clear endorsement of our credibility and our resolve to offer Nigerians a viable alternative to the ruling APC.”

The gathering featured a wide array of national leaders, including former National Chairman Chief Ralphs Okorie Nwosu and other high-ranking party officials.

For the Labour Party, Kingibe’s departure is seen as a substantial blow to their standing in the FCT.
