President Bola Tinubu has officially reconstituted the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), with Dr. Musiliu Olalekan Oseni taking over as the substantive Chairman.
The move followed the Senate’s confirmation of the nominees on December 16.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the appointments on Thursday, noting that the selection of Dr.Oseni comes after the initial nomination of Abdullahi Ramat was dropped following public controversy and Senate scrutiny.

Dr. Oseni, who has been with the commission since 2017, served as Vice Chairman and later as Acting Chairman.
His official tenure as Chairman began on December 1, 2025, and is set to continue “until the completion of his ten-year tenure at the Commission, in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.”
Joining him in leadership is Dr. Yusuf Ali, who was designated as Vice Chairman effective December 1, 2025.

Ali, first appointed as a Commissioner in 2022, will hold this role until the end of his first term.
The reconstituted board also includes a mix of returning and new commissioners:

Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti: Serving a second term, having joined in 2017.

Mr. Dafe Akpeneye: Serving a second term, having joined in 2017.

Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello: Serving a second term, having joined in December 2020.

Dr. Chidi Ike: Returning to complete his first stint after his 2022 appointment.

Dr. Fouad Animashaun: Embarking on his first term as a commissioner. Animashaun is an energy economist who previously led the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has explicitly charged the new board to “deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector,” emphasizing that their actions must be in “strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.”
