Vice President Kashim Shettima has issued a stern warning to political rivals, asserting that only “a fool hell-bent on a suicidal path” or “an outright imposter” would attempt to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Friday at the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shettima dismissed the threat of opposition parties, mocking the idea that elections are won through online presence.
He stressed that modern political success is not built on “social media platforms, nostalgia or… empty rhetoric,” but rather on strategic organization and real-world results.

While acknowledging that democratic principles allow any citizen to run for office, the Vice President remained blunt about the upcoming political landscape:“Only a fool, hell-bent on a suicidal path, or an outright imposter can dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. But we are in a democracy, and people are free to contest elections,” Shettima stated.
He further emphasized that electoral victories are the product of “strong coalitions, credibility and conviction,” rather than sentiments or catchy slogans.
Confident in the ruling party’s trajectory, Shettima described the 2027 race as a calculated mission rather than a risk.
“With the experience of our president as our shield, and the lessons of the past as our guide, I believe 2027 is not a gamble; it is a responsibility. By the grace of God, we shall have a renewable blessing,” he added.
The Vice President’s comments arrive at a time of early political maneuvering and realignments as opposition figures begin to position themselves for the next transition cycle.
