In a significant legal development, the Ogun State Police Command has officially arraigned the driver involved in the fatal Lexus SUV crash that injured boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and killed two of his close associates.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, appeared before the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, Friday, January 2, 2026. The police confirmed the arraignment through a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi.
“I wish to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026,” the police stated.

Kayode faces a four-count charge related to the December 29 accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway:

Dangerous driving causing death (pursuant to the Federal Highway Act).

Reckless and negligent driving.
-
Driving without due care and attention, resulting in bodily harm and property damage.

Driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence.
The court granted the defendant bail set at ₦5,000,000 with two sureties. However, he has been remanded in custody until his bail conditions are fully met.
The accident claimed the lives of Latif Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach.
Following his discharge from Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi on Wednesday, Anthony Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their respects.
The state governments noted:“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation scheduled for later this evening.”
The remains of Ayodele and Ghami were scheduled for repatriation to the United Kingdom late Thursday night. Joshua, who sustained minor injuries, is currently recuperating at home.
