Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry in Lagos, has announced his decision to temporarily vacate the pulpit following a series of high-profile controversies involving his personal life.
The clergyman has been at the center of a public storm involving his ex-wife, Bessem, and Nollywood actress Doris Ogala.
Throughout 2025, Ogala accused the pastor of causing her emotional distress and reneging on marriage promises.
Simultaneously, his ex-wife, Bessem, countered his allegations of adultery by accusing him of physical assault.

In a viral video of a recent church service, Okafor informed his congregation that he would be taking the month of January 2026 off for a spiritual retreat and personal rest with his new wife.
He further explained that the break was necessary due to the lack of downtime since his recent wedding:
During his absence, a group of associate pastors has been tasked with leading the “prophetic Sundays” and ministering to the members of the Lagos-based ministry.
