Prominent Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has made a startling claim, alleging that he was placed on a “hit list” for assassination by the United States.
In a viral video posted by X user #General_Somto on Sunday, January 4, 2026, Gumi asserted that he was categorized as a Boko Haram figure just hours before a U.S. air strike took place in Nigeria.
The cleric described receiving an early-morning warning from a high-ranking source in Abuja regarding a national security meeting.

“I received a call from a top official in Abuja informing me that I am among those marked by the us for elimination through an American airstrike, as part of Boko Haram. Northern leaders and clerics must speak up against these lies,” Gumi said.
This claim follows the December 25, 2025, U.S. air strikes targeting members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Sokoto State.
The military action aligns with recent vows from President Donald Trump to intervene in Nigeria “guns-a-blazing to wipe out the terrorists killing Christians.”
Gumi used the address to his congregation to launch a fierce critique of foreign military presence on Nigerian soil.
“They claim to have come here to fight terrorists, but they are the actual terrorists,” he said, further accusing the U.S. of playing a role in the rise of Boko Haram.
“Even Americans said they came to fight terrorists, so who are the terrorists? They are the ones.”

The cleric expressed deep disappointment in northern Nigeria’s political and religious leaders, accusing them of cowardice and silence in the face of foreign intervention and rising insecurity.
“The north, you all know they attacked, but where are your leaders and what have they done about it?” Gumi asked. “It happens, and nobody is talking; they are all afraid to talk. That’s the situation we are in this country.”
Gumi also accused the international community and domestic scholars of demonstrating bias in their distribution of humanitarian and security support.
“They attacked us for false claims, and they give support of a certain amount of money to Christians alone. No country will accept that. Either you give support to the entire nation, or we don’t need it,” he added.
The cleric concluded by arguing that the worsening social divisions and insecurity in Nigeria are being fueled by the policies and narratives originating from the Trump administration.
