Rivers Deputy Governor Odu Formally Dumps PDP For APC

In a significant political move, Rivers State Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Her defection comes roughly a month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and a majority of the state’s lawmakers made the same switch, ending weeks of speculation regarding her political alignment.

Addressing stakeholders on Sunday, January 4, 2026, during a tour of the six zones in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Prof. Odu confirmed she had completed her formal entry into the ruling party.

“I have completed my registration formalities at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11,” she announced.

The Deputy Governor emphasized that her decision was aimed at creating a unified front in support of both the federal and state administrations.

She encouraged residents of the Orashi region to participate in the ongoing electronic registration process.

The move is to further strengthen the support base of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, noting that six zonal meetings had already been held to facilitate the actualisation of the plan,” Odu stated.

Prof. Odu highlighted the enthusiastic reception she received across the various zones, including Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema, and Ndoni, noting that the people appear ready to follow the current leadership’s new direction.

Today, I came to sensitise the people, and everywhere we went, there were large crowds who came out to receive us. They said wherever I go, they will go with me, and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go. You can see the joy and happiness. I have touched all the six zones — Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni,” she added.

This development effectively consolidates the APC’s control over the Rivers State Executive Council, further isolating the faction loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who remains in the PDP despite serving in President Tinubu’s cabinet.
