Photo Of Driver Involved In Anthony Joshua’s Fatal Accident That Killed Two Of His Friends Emerges

A photo has surfaced of Adeniyi Kayode, the 47-year-old driver behind the wheel of the black Lexus SUV during last week’s horrific crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of Anthony Joshua’s closest friends.

The accident occurred when the vehicle struck the rear of a stationary truck loaded with soya beans.

The impact instantly killed strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif Ayodele, both 36, as the side of the SUV was completely torn away.

Anthony Joshua, 36, and the driver escaped without life-threatening injuries. Joshua’s survival is being described as miraculous, as he had reportedly swapped seats with Latif just before the group departed Lagos for Sagamu.

On Friday, Kayode appeared before a magistrate in Sagamu facing several charges, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a license.

He faces a potential life sentence if convicted.

Meanwhile, police are still searching for the driver of the truck, which was parked illegally on the notorious Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Kayode, a father of three who has been Joshua’s driver for over three years, was released on a 5 million Naira bond yesterday.

His legal team and family maintain that the tragedy was a mechanical failure rather than driver error.

His lawyer, Olalekan Abiodun, told the Daily Mail:“My client has pleaded not guilty and what happened was an accident, I haven’t had a full chance to speak with him yet but I know he is saying the brakes failed.”

The lawyer also clarified the seating arrangement that saved the boxer’s life:“I also understand that the journey started in Lagos and that initially Anthony had got into the front seat but the driver asked him to swap seats. He did this because Anthony is a big fellow and he couldn’t see the wing mirror properly so he asked him to move and he sat behind the driver. From what I understand Latif was in front and then changed seats with Anthony.”

The driver’s son, Ifeoluwa Adeniyi, echoed these sentiments, insisting his father was not speeding:“The family is very upset by what’s happened and we are sorry for the deaths of the two people. Dad is not a fast driver, he was following the speed limit and then the brakes failed, he said he was pushing the pedal but nothing was happening.”

He further emphasized that the crash was unavoidable due to the truck’s position:“He’s been driving for Anthony for three years, he’s a good driver. It’s not his fault, if the truck wasn’t parked there illegally this wouldn’t have happened.”

Kayode is scheduled to return to court on January 20.

Although Joshua has already returned to England via private jet, Nigerian police sources suggest he may be required to return to provide evidence during the trial.
