President Bola Tinubu has forwarded two separate letters to the Senate requesting the confirmation of 21 nominees for the boards of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
In the first communication, the President nominated Senator Magnus Abe to serve as the NUPRC board chair.
Abe is a former NNPC board member and current chairman of the National Agency of the Great Green Wall.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, other nominees for the NUPRC board include:

Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi and Sunday Adebayo Babalola as non-executive commissioners.

Muhammed Sabo Lamido (Executive Commissioner, Finance)

Mr. Edu Inyang (Executive Commissioner, Exploration and Acreage)

Justin Ezeala (Executive Commissioner, Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning)

Henry Darlington Oki (Executive Commissioner, Development and Production)

Indabawa Bashari Alka (Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services and Administration)

Mahmood Tijani (Executive Commissioner, Health, Safety, and Environment)

Olayemi Adeboyejo (Secretary and Legal Adviser)
The statement noted that while some members like Lamido and Adeboyejo were originally appointed in 2022, several others, including Inyang and Ezeala, are new appointees under the current administration.

In the second letter, President Tinubu nominated lawyer Adegbite Ebiowei Adeniji as the chairman of the NMDPRA board.
Adeniji brings over 30 years of experience, having served as a technical adviser to the Minister of State for Petroleum and a member of the World Bank’s Oil & Gas Policy team.

The President’s requests follow the recent Senate confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as CEO of the NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of the NMDPRA.
In his charge to the nominees, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of their roles in the energy sector.
Tinubu charged all the appointees and nominees to discharge their duties and responsibilities professionally as regulators of the oil and gas sectors.
The President has urged the Senate to grant these approvals expeditiously to ensure the smooth regulation of Nigeria’s oil and gas industries.
