The quarter-final stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco is now set following the conclusion of a dramatic Round of 16.
The final slot was secured by Algeria, who overcame the Democratic Republic of Congo in a tense battle in Rabat on Tuesday.
Super-sub Anis Boulbina became the hero of the night, striking in the 119th minute of extra time to seal a 1–0 win.
This result sets the stage for a heavyweight quarter-final clash against Nigeria, who dominated Mozambique 4–0 earlier in the week behind a brace from Victor Osimhen.
Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire also advanced in convincing fashion, brushing aside Burkina Faso 3–0.
Manchester United’s Amad Diallo opened the scoring, followed by goals from Yan Diomande and Bazoumana Touré.
Other giants remaining in the hunt for the title include Senegal, Egypt, Cameroon, Mali, and the host nation, Morocco.
