In anticipation of the 2027 general elections, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, the platform under which he served as the vice-presidential candidate in 2023.
Baba-Ahmed, 56, was the running mate to Peter Obi, who recently made headlines by defecting from the Labour Party roughly two years after their joint presidential bid.
Obi has since moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), joining a coalition of leaders aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the Labour Party’s National Headquarters in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed made it clear that he does not intend to follow his former principal’s lead.
He pledged his continued availability to help “fix Nigeria” come 2027 within the Labour Party.
Expressing his lack of confidence in the new coalition, Baba-Ahmed took a swipe at the ADC’s ranks, describing members of the alliance as “disgruntled politicians.”
