APC Leaders, Tinubu/Shettima Group Storm National Secretariat, Demand Wike’s Removal As FCT Minister

Internal friction within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reached a boiling point as two prominent groups, the APC Leaders Forum (ALF) and the Tinubu/Shettima Solidarity Movement (TSSM), have formally demanded the sack of Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

In an open letter dated January 7, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu via the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the coalition accused Wike of “insubordination, anti-party activities, and threats to national unity.”

The demand was made public on Wednesday during a peaceful demonstration at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, which leaders described as a move to “defend party integrity, democratic values and the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The letter, signed by Dr. Emeka Okoro, Dr. Adekunle Balogun, Ibrahim Yusuf, and Abdulkareem Isiaka, expressed deep concern over Wike’s conduct, particularly his alleged attacks on the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.

The groups cited a January 5 event in Rivers State where Wike reportedly warned those “meddling” in the state’s affairs that they would “get their fingers burnt,” an act they viewed as a direct insult to the APC National Working Committee.

A major point of contention is Wike’s ongoing friction with the Rivers State Governor. The coalition stated:“Wike’s ongoing vendetta against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, our duly elected APC Governor in Rivers State, is nothing short of political sabotage. He has repeatedly mocked Fubara’s leadership, called his emergence a ‘mistake’ to be corrected in 2027, and accused him of betrayal and incompetence. These attacks have escalated in recent weeks, with Wike touring local governments to incite division and undermine Fubara’s administration.”

The groups questioned the logic of keeping a minister who actively opposes his own party’s governor, writing:“As a serving minister in an APC-led government, Wike’s actions amount to anti-party activities that weaken our hold on Rivers State—a key battleground for the APC’s future electoral success. How can we trust a man who actively works against our own governor while enjoying the privileges of your administration?”

Beyond party politics, the leaders raised alarms regarding national security, pointing to Wike’s alleged comments suggesting “nobody can enter Rivers State.”

They interpreted this as a challenge to the President’s authority as Commander-in-Chief. Furthermore, they criticized his claim of controlling “two political parties,” calling it a clear conflict of interest.

The coalition has vowed to take their protests nationwide until Wike is removed, insisting that “no individual is above the party or the country.”
