Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation magazine, has once again criticized Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 vice-presidential candidate for the Labour Party.
The dispute arose after Baba-Ahmed questioned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s intent to run for the presidency in 2027, suggesting the country requires younger leadership.
Baba-Ahmed pointed to the length of Atiku’s political career, noting that the former vice-president has been an aspirant since his own youth service years.

He remarked:“When I was doing my NYSC, Baba Atiku was an aspirant, and in 2018, we contested the primaries together. In 2023, we contested again, with me as a vice-presidential candidate elsewhere, when his vice president had left him. And, for God’s sake, in 2027 again,”
Baba-Ahmed further argued that Nigeria needs “a whole new generation” of leaders to solve national issues, expressing frustration with a system he believes is defined by godfathers and failed commitments.
Momodu responded via his verified X account, defending Atiku’s vision and questioning the focus on age.
He challenged Baba-Ahmed’s logic by asking:“Does being old mean you’re no longer good and visionary? Does age disqualify anyone from personal aspirations?”

Momodu also questioned whether Atiku had ever hindered the political ambitions of Baba-Ahmed or Peter Obi, and drew a comparison between the two politicians’ educational investments:“What makes you better than ATIKU ABUBAKAR who owns the American University just like you own Baze University, and was Vice President of Nigeria?”
Addressing the idea that younger candidates deserve priority, Momodu asked:“Can a man donate his personal dreams to you just because you’re younger?”
Momodu emphasized that Atiku possesses a formidable nationwide structure and hails from high-voting regions, arguing that these factors should be respected rather than dismissed.
He noted:“If you admit that ATIKU is more formidable and comes from the regions where the votes are more voluminous… why can’t you appreciate, and imbibe, and support, his doggedness?”
This friction follows a previous clash where Momodu described Baba-Ahmed as “an aggrieved person,” and compared his behavior to that of “a jilted lover” after Baba-Ahmed labeled the African Democratic Congress (ADC) a party for disgruntled figures.
During an appearance on Channels Television, Momodu added:“He ran with Peter Obi the last time; he would expect to run again, but they should not turn themselves into serial contestants,”
