Tinubu Can Sack Me If ……. – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has responded to those demanding his removal, stating that it is the sole prerogative of President Bola Tinubu to dismiss him if he chooses.

Speaking on Sunday, January 11, 2026, during a “thank you” visit to his home Local Government Area, Obio-Akpor, Wike emphasized that his community has remained loyal to him since 1999.

Despite calls from various politicians and interest groups for his sack due to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, Wike maintained that politics is driven by the interests of the people rather than sentiment or emotion.

He asserted that “power is not given but taken,” and highlighted the political influence of his local government:“For the people of Obio/Akpor, we have the power to dictate who becomes a governor in Rivers. There is no sentiment, there is no emotion. Politics is an interest; the interest of your people. Power is not given; we struggle for it. After all, if Donald Trump did not have power, would he go to Venezuela to pick a president? He wouldn’t. Because he has power, that’s why he can act.”

Wike further challenged his critics by comparing the voting strength of different areas, asking if those from regions with minimal votes could realistically challenge a local government that produced 40 percent of the total votes.

He warned his detractors:“So, if you like, abuse us, after abusing us, come and look for our votes and we will punish you with the votes. Don’t bother about people who say ‘sack him.’ If my appointor believes that I cannot offer anything again, he has the right; it is not in your place to tell him what to do.”

The Minister expressed confidence that President Tinubu recognizes his value and does not require outside advice on how to handle his cabinet.

He also credited the President with doing a great deal for the people of Rivers State, promising that they would reciprocate that support in the 2027 elections.

Addressing those who criticize his style, Wike clarified that he chose to be a politician rather than a pastor, trader, or journalist, and urged his opponents to let him practice his profession.

He concluded by stating, “ask them if their local government, which produced only 5,000 votes, can challenge one that produced 40 per cent of the votes? Let us see how it will work.”
