Ex-APC Presidential Aspirant, SKC Ogbonnia Resigns From Party, Gives Reasons

A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Enugu State, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, has officially resigned from the party.

In a letter dated Tuesday, January 13, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in the Awgu Local Government Area, Ogbonnia cited deep dissatisfaction with the current administration and the overall state of the nation.

Ogbonnia, who returned his APC membership card along with the letter, explained that his resignation followed “extensive consultation” with his family and political associates.

He noted that the current direction of the party and the country has become “untenable and unbearable” for him.

In a stinging critique of President Bola Tinubu’s government, Ogbonnia outlined several core issues:

  • Governance and Security: He accused the leadership of failing to tackle poverty, unemployment, and insecurity. Most notably, he alleged that the President’s “inhumane leadership” has left Nigeria vulnerable, stating:“Tinubu’s inhumane leadership, where he had remained nonchalant to severe security challenges ravaging the country, has compromised national sovereignty and made Nigeria vulnerable to neocolonial foreign military interventions.”

  • Internal Party Issues: He criticized a lack of internal democracy, citing “pervasive undemocratic practices, imposition of leaders, marginalisation of loyal members, vendetta politics, and acute nepotism.”

  • Political Environment: He accused the APC of “aggressively” pursuing a one-party state and ignoring youth inclusion in key federal appointments.

  • Opposition to a Second Term: Ogbonnia described the plan to re-nominate President Tinubu for the 2027 elections as a “gross insult” to Nigerians, calling the President “irredeemable.”

Ogbonnia further alleged that the President has lost his influence both domestically and internationally, claiming he is “treated as a political leper among our key allies, particularly the United States of America.”

Concluding his letter, Ogbonnia emphasized that he can no longer remain part of a party that he believes undermines the principles of good governance:“These issues, among many others, have convinced me that the APC, in its current state, does not serve the best interest of my community or Nigeria as a whole. Thus, I can no longer align or be associated with a political path that seems to undermine the very principles of true democracy and good governance that Nigerians deserve.”

While he thanked the party for their support during his 2019 presidential bid, he made it clear that his association with the APC has ended.
