The former governor of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has officially formalised his membership in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ihedioha completed his registration on Monday, January 12, 2026, at his home ward, Mbutu Ward in the Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area.
During the ceremony, he was presented with the party’s official membership card, notably designated as Number 001.
The registration was overseen by the ward secretary, Prince Obinna Opara, and the card was formally handed over by the ward chairman, Chief Alex Ahamuefula.

The event was attended by various party stakeholders and community leaders, including the Mayor of Mbutu, Evangelist Dr. Obi Nwaigwe, and the Aboh-Mbaise LGA Chairman, Hon. Jonathan Egbule.
Following his registration, Ihedioha explained that his move to the ADC was a calculated choice based on the party’s dedication to transparency and service.
He remarked:“Our people want leadership that listens, serves, and puts the common good above personal interest. I am convinced that the ADC provides a credible platform to pursue these goals.”
He further emphasized that starting his journey at the ward level was a deliberate move to reinforce his “commitment to grassroots politics.”
National and state officials of the party hailed the former governor’s entry as a major win for the ADC’s influence both in the South-East and across Nigeria.
Sir Bon Unachukwu, the ADC National Vice Chairman (South East), noted:“Ihedioha’s entry into the party is a boost to the ADC’s profile in the South East and nationally… the party is pleased to welcome a former governor and experienced public servant.”
The Imo State Chairman of the ADC, Prof. James Okoroma, who led the State Executive Committee to the event, added that Ihedioha’s decision “strengthened the ADC in Imo State and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots mobilisation.”
