The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially refuted claims that Governor Dauda Lawal submitted a formal request to defect to the party.
The denial follows widespread rumors suggesting that Lawal, currently a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was planning a political cross-over.
In a statement released in Gusau on Saturday, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, labeled these reports as entirely fictitious.

He explained: “The party came across a fabricated report purported to have emanated from one Tambarin Gusau claiming that Go Dauda Lawal has sent a letter to the party wanting to join the APC.”
Idris strongly condemned the misinformation, describing it as “malicious, unfortunate, unfounded, mischievous” and a reflection of an “unprofessional manner which some people can go in misleading others and causing chaos in a stable and a peaceful party like the APC.”
He emphasized that the APC maintains strict organizational protocols, noting, “The APC has responsible channels where everything is done in a guided manner.”
The party spokesperson clarified that no such correspondence exists and that the leadership is unaware of any defection plans by the Governor.
He maintained that the claims were merely the “imagination of the writer” and urged the public to ignore them.
“All members of the party and indeed the public especially in Zamfara should therefore disregard such report,” Idris concluded.
